E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness)
What E-E-A-T means, and how Paul Truscott applies a statistical measurement lens to treat it as a composite of trackable signals rather than a checklist.
Factual Definition
E-E-A-T is a framework, defined in Google's Search Quality Rater Guidelines and expanded from E-A-T in December 2022, used to evaluate the quality of web content. It assesses the degree to which content demonstrates first-hand experience, subject-matter expertise, authoritativeness of the creator and the site, and overall trustworthiness.
Paul Truscott's Perspective on E-E-A-T
Paul Truscott's perspective is that E-E-A-T is routinely treated as a checklist, add an author bio, add credentials, add reviews, when it is more accurately a composite of underlying signals that Google's systems evaluate continuously and quantitatively. His view is that author vectors, content effort, site authority, and entity salience are each independently measurable inputs to the overall E-E-A-T assessment, and treating any one of them as sufficient on its own misunderstands how the composite works.
His own site is built as a direct demonstration of this principle: the Experience pillar is served by his documented career history and first-hand origin story, the Expertise pillar by his STA credentials and Koray-derived methodology, the Authoritativeness pillar by publications and podcast appearances, and the Trustworthiness pillar by consistent, corroborated entity declarations across every source. He treats each pillar as something to be built and tracked independently, not as a single undifferentiated impression of credibility.
How Paul Truscott Applies E-E-A-T
Paul audits each of the four E-E-A-T pillars separately for a client entity, identifying which pillar is weakest before recommending intervention. A brand strong on expertise but weak on independently corroborated trustworthiness gets a different remediation plan than a brand strong on trustworthiness but weak on demonstrated first-hand experience. Why E-E-A-T Matters to Paul Truscott's Practice
E-E-A-T is the framework underlying every entity identity and Brand SERP engagement Paul undertakes, and his practice of treating it as four separately measurable signals, rather than one undifferentiated impression, reflects the same statistical discipline that runs through his coined frameworks.
