The King of Google Maps Launches Maptimal with the Kings of AEO and Local Lead Generation
Paul David Truscott, the King of Google Maps, has co-founded Maptimal, a local visibility service that gets businesses chosen on Google Maps and named in AI answers. His co-founders are James Dooley, the King of AEO, and Peter Victor Jones, the King of Local Lead Generation.
Maptimal launches on Tuesday 13 October 2026. It serves local businesses in English-speaking countries, including the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand.
What is Maptimal?
Maptimal is a Google Maps and AI answer optimisation company for local businesses. It strengthens the facts Google holds about a business, so Google Maps ranks it higher and AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews recommend it.
Google Maps no longer stands alone. The same Business Profile now feeds Google Maps, AI Mode, Gemini and Ask Maps, so one well-built local entity earns more places to be chosen.
Why did Paul Truscott launch Maptimal?
Paul Truscott launched Maptimal to give local business owners what he never had: a lead source they own, built on rankings that produce calls. From 2011 to 2018 Paul ran a pest control business in Perth, Western Australia. He bought shared leads, where the same enquiry went to several competitors and the fastest caller won the job.
That frustration sent Paul into SEO in 2015. He studied Google patents, search results data and live tests, with one commercial rule: a ranking had to produce calls and enquiries, or the tactic was dropped. His sites have since generated over 150,000 leads for US local service businesses.
At Maptimal, Paul leads the Google Maps work: the Business Profile, the listings and details around it, and where a business appears on the map across the area it serves.
How did the three Kings of search come together?
Paul Truscott, James Dooley and Peter Victor Jones met through Koray Tuğberk Gübür's semantic SEO cohort. James invited Paul to join the cohort mastermind in 2024, where Peter was already a member. Paul has studied Koray's methodology since 2022 and completed the course eight times.
Paul is a recurring guest on James Dooley's FatRank Podcast, with episodes on Google BrainLoc, geo-topicality and EAV triples in local SEO. On 26 June 2026, all three founders attended The Masterminders conference in Manchester, where James spoke on stage.
Why did Paul team up with James Dooley, the King of AEO?
Paul teamed up with James Dooley to win the AI half of local search. Google Maps rankings and AI answers draw on the same evidence, and James leads Maptimal's answer engine optimisation (AEO). AEO is the work of getting a business named when people ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Overviews for a local recommendation.
James Dooley founded FatRank, a pay-on-results lead generation company, on 7 September 2007. He has built and ranked over 1,000 websites that have generated more than 2 million enquiries. James has co-authored 8 books, including The Complete Local SEO Playbook 2025.
James and Paul share a working method: test first, keep what produces enquiries, discard the rest. Maptimal's UK head office sits in Leigh, Greater Manchester, James's home town.
Why did Paul team up with Peter Victor Jones, the King of Local Lead Generation?
Paul teamed up with Peter Victor Jones to turn map visibility into paying work. A map ranking pays only when the phone rings, and Peter has spent 18 years turning search visibility into enquiries. Peter Victor Jones, known as the King of Local Lead Generation, has worked in search since 2008 and leads Maptimal's local lead generation.
Peter's organic SEO and Google Ads systems generate over 20,000 leads a year for a single national service business. He has managed over £1m in Google Ads spend. His book, Echo: How Brands Get Mentioned, Recommended, and Cited by AI, sets out the ECHO Framework for AI visibility.
Paul and Peter both came to search as people who needed leads, not as agency marketers. Both measure success in calls, enquiries and booked jobs.
What do the three Kings combine inside Maptimal?
Maptimal joins three specialisms that local businesses usually buy from three separate suppliers: Google Maps ranking, AI answer visibility and lead generation. The founders bring 48 years of combined search experience.
| Founder | Title | In search since | Track record | Leads at Maptimal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paul Truscott | King of Google Maps | 2015 | 150,000+ leads; 2019 KGMID and proximity-filter research | Google Maps and the Business Profile |
| James Dooley | King of AEO | 2007 | 1,000+ sites; 2 million+ enquiries | Getting businesses named in AI answers |
| Peter Victor Jones | King of Local Lead Generation | 2008 | 20,000+ leads a year; £1m+ Google Ads spend | Turning map and AI visitors into enquiries |
The founders set out to build the most complete Google Maps and AI answer service available to local businesses, with one plan from the map ranking to the AI recommendation to the enquiry.
What does Maptimal offer local businesses?
Maptimal offers local businesses more exposure where customers decide who to call: on Google Maps and inside AI answers. Greater exposure turns into a steadier, more predictable flow of enquiries.
- Shows the business for more searches, across a wider area around its location
- Puts the business in the shortlist when ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Overviews recommend a local provider
- Brings in callers who found the business themselves, not shared leads sold to five competitors
- Smooths out the feast-and-famine cycle of relying on one lead source
- Builds an asset the business owns, not a lead supply it rents month after month
- Earns trust before the first call, with accurate details, answered reviews and photos of real work
More calls mean a busier diary. A busier diary with leads the owner controls means fewer evenings chasing work and more time for family, holidays and the life the business was meant to pay for.
How does Paul's Google Maps method shape Maptimal?
Paul's Google Maps method gives Maptimal's Maps work a fixed order of five steps. Google names relevance, distance and prominence as its main local ranking factors, and each step targets one or more of them.
- 01Clarify: declare who the business is, what it does and where. Google ranks what it understands with confidence.
- 02Build relevance: prove each service and location through the Business Profile and the website. Relevance decides which searches a profile qualifies for.
- 03Accumulate trust: grow reviews, mentions and relevant links steadily. Prominence comes from independent evidence gathered over time.
- 04Reconcile: remove conflicting facts, old addresses and duplicate listings. Conflicting data gives Google less reason to trust any version.
- 05Measure selection: track map reach, query coverage, leads and AI recommendations. Measurement shows whether Google chooses the business more often.
Paul's KGMID, proximity-filter and city-centroid findings come from his own testing. Google has not published them.
